Projectile Point and Desert Rose

We live by the woods on a ravine.  A creek runs at the bottom of the ravine.  I found this projectile point while digging a hole for an azalea plant in my front yard.  It is about 3.5 - 4" long and about 1.5" wide at the base.  The "Indian Mounds" are not too far from here.  I purchased the desert rose from a dealer who sells a variety of natural items such as amethyst geodes, unusual sea shells, etc.

When I was little . . . .

We went on vacation when I was a little kid and my parents gave me some "spending money" and said that I could buy a souvenir.  I didn't have to look very long and I'm sure my parents were puzzled when I spent the money on a small jar filled with broken glass.   I loved the colors and shapes!  These are those same little "chunks" that I bought about to 50 years ago.

Busy Day! Productive Day

The day started out early (and I didn't go to bed until after 3am).  I had a pretty productive day all things considered. I completed some projects in the studio, wrote some letters, and stopped by one of my galleries where I spent a pleasant couple of hours talking to a friend.  I made this photo tonight.

Flat lap doing its thing

I was in the studio and realized that I had not taken a photograph today.  So here is one of about a dozen I made in and around there!

It's Nice out tonight or Lapful of Cats

I didn't feel well today so I didn't really get up until this evening.  By the time I got around to making photos, it was late.  I walked outside and it was crisp and cool. The moon is not yet full but very bright, so I snapped this.  Then, two of my kitties decided to sit in my lap and I made an inside photo, too!  Here are Purrble (on the left) and Roundface (on the right) settled on my lap.  Purrble just loves Roundface (she's much, much younger than he is) but here they are . . . . she's delighted and he's very tolerant (he has become fond of her in his way)!

Remember?

When I was little, I use to love to look in my Grandmother's trunk. Now this is my trunk and here are some of my dolls that she saved for me. My Grandmother was one of 9 children and she never had a lot of toys. She always loved dolls.  Long after I had stopped playing with them, she saved them and would wash their clothes and iron them and set the dolls out on the beds.  The doll that is second from the left was a beautiful Snow White doll but I eventually pulled all of her hair off and who knows what happened to the dress.  Mama Willis made "corn rows" out of a t-shirt and glued them on!! That was a jillion years ago. The little bear is my brother's. (Oh, and that's Purrble, one of my kitties, in the bottom of the trunk).

Rounding Out the Day (or Bump Takes a Nap)

He plays hard and he sleeps hard!  But he's a good boy.

"Plus" by Fred Holschuh located in the LeMoyne Sculpture Garden

I walked through the sculpture garden at LeMoyne after attending a presentation on the work of Karl Zerbe and
Nancy Reid Gunn by retired FSU Art Professor (and friend)  Janice Hartwell.  She gave an interesting talk.  We ate lunch in the gallery while we enjoyed the beautiful work.   Then we attended a wax encaustic and printmaking workshop presented by Lee Ann Burchell.  What a great Saturday!

Ah, Serendipity!

This image surprised me.  It has a sensual aspect that I did not discern when I took the shot.
Can you tell what this image is or where I took the photo?

Eye of the Beholder

In contemporary art, whether it is 2 or 3 dimensional in nature, we experience different types of work, produced in a growing variety of mediums.  There are large color field paintings, non-objective work, pure abstraction, abstract expressionism, contemporary realism, super realism, or conceptual ideas and innovative installations.

As an artist, I try to appreciate what someone else has sought to convey or express. Sometimes I feel that I am successful and sometimes I am not.
And then there are those incidental discoveries that both startle and delight us -
like the following image which "resides" on my work table:

Below, is an photo showing my work tables where you can see evidence of several interesting images!  These tables are on the porch of my studio and they are used when I scrape kiln shelves, re-coat those shelves with kiln wash, paint the metal backs for my glass paintings, scrub the glass in my old restaurant double sink, use my airbrush, or attempt any number of other messy chores!

And here are more 'transitory images' from the table surfaces:

I like each of these for different reasons.  I think I could  have made them a little "cleaner" with minimal adjustment in Photo-shop. However, these are as you see them.  "What  Is, Is"  has a place, too!

Shade Enjoys a Good (ball of ) Yarn

"Shade,"  20 years old, contemplates whether he wants to play with the yarn or dream about it while he naps!
I crocheted while we watched the Vikings defeat the Cowboys today.

"Come and fret not, O last leaves, for yours has been a summer of wild delight . . . ."

The woods are lovely, even on this hazy rainy day.
I made this from the porch outside of my studio.

Pretty Roxie

Roxie is waiting for my Mom to open the door for her.  If Mom does not go out in the yard with her (it is fenced in), she doesn't want to stay out for too long!

Look Up! Somebody Had a Party

Today's photo of the day is a "twofer."  I looked up, looked again, zoomed in, and voila!  "Somebody had a party."  Between the wind and rain they will come down before too long and I will dispose of them at that time.  However, for now they will wave around and dance up there for a while!

Detail from Chuck's Glass

This is a detail I took from one of my husband's pieces.  (You can see the whole platter on one of my other blogs entitled "Chuck Corbett Glass"). It is an older piece, but  I like it very much.

A 2nd Grade Artifact or My First Love Letter

This is a letter from a nice little boy I  knew in the 2nd grade.  I still have his school picture from that year.  My Mom saved them and I am glad that she did.  Tommy, if  you should see this, thank you for this sweet paper memory.

Moonscape (or frozen water in cat water bowl)

Some of my cats still go outside for a little while during the day.
We live by the woods, it is quiet and they take naps in the sun.  Of course they always have fresh water.
It was cold again today and this morning only two of them ventured out for a brief jaunt.  Their frozen water bowl was a surprise for everyone!

The One Less Traveled

This little path  leads down to a creek and a ravine.  It is so cold today - and the sunshine is misleading!

Come Together

Come Together
vitreous enamels in kiln-fired glass

Today was a little hectic and started out with a trip to the Veterinarian's.  Things are okay and everyone is fine now.  While making photos for the  Photo-a-Day project, I have been going outside and making between 20 and 30 shots each "session." Today, however, I went in the studio and photographed some of my work.

"I'm a big Fan"

This was made in the ravine. I thought the color was subtle and pretty.  These fronds have quite a bit of personality, too - always waving and trying to get your attention!

January 2, 2010 is a crisp Saturday!

This Skyscape revealed itself when I
walked over to provide fresh water for the birdbath!
