I enjoyed my workshop with Kathy today! Here is a piece using fire scale as a design element with a transparent clear over it (actually two layers of transparent one clear and the other a very thin, very subtle layer of sky blue).

Terrie - love it. Is the red portion enamel too? It's really pretty - I can envision tiles like that up in a beautiful kitchen, or around a fireplace.
ReplyDeleteHi Barb,
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was a fun workshop. (a traditional enameling workshop of glass on metal - I used copper).
The red is the firescale (which looks black at first). It develops on the side that is face down when you first fire on the counter enamel. I brushed as much of the firescale off as I could and then sifted on a clear enamel (I fired it) and then sifted on a transparent blue enamel (and fired it). Voila! I also did another piece. It was a good workshop.
